Bates College Oral History Collection
The Bates College Oral History Project seeks to document and celebrate the rich and varied history of Bates College by compiling a collection of recorded spoken memories from a variety of individuals closely connected to Bates College, including alumni/alumnae, faculty, staff, presidents and students.
Bates College Personal Photograph Album collection
Collection contains photograph albums belonging to alumni/alumnae primarily documenting their time at Bates College or the Maine State Seminary. Some of the albums have labelled photographs while others do not.
Bates College Photograph Collection
The collection documents the life of the College from 1875-present, although the bulk of the collection runs from the early 1890's though the early 1950's.
Bates College scrapbook collection
The collection contains scrapbooks dating primarily from the early 1900s to the 1950s maintained by Bates students and faculty.
Bates College Slide Collection
Contains colored slides of classroom scenes, campus scenes photographed in various seasons, campus buildings, sports, staff and faculty, commencement, reunion, short term and study away as well as other special events; also contains key slides used in various slideshow presentations, Capital Campaign slideshow, play productions, snow sculptures, slide sets and originals used in various college publications.
Bates College Student Government Records
The records of the Bates College Student Government include correspondence, ledgers, programs, publications, minutes, general administrative files, budget proposals, and committee files. These records document the history of the Student Government from 1897 to 2009.
Bates people files
A collection of published and some unpublished material documenting Bates College faculty, staff, alumni, and other people associated with the College, such as honorary degree recipients.
Batesiana subject files
A collection of published and some unpublished material documenting various aspects of Bates College, such as athletics, buildings and grounds, events, traditions, and curricula.
Benjamin F. Hayes papers
Contains a journal and a bound volume of lecture notes by Bates professor Benjamin F. Hayes. The journal was begun in the 1850s to record a wide range of interests from slavery to phrenology, and includes a red piece of cloth purported to be a piece of the flag which was raised over the mansion house in Alexandria by Col. E. E. Ellsworth just before his assassination. Ellsworth is often claimed to be the first casualty of the Civil War.
Bobcat Jazz Band
This collection contains song arrangements done specifically for the Bobcat Jazz Band by band members. Many of the arrangements were made by Camp L. Thomas '43, with a few others by Howard C. Jordan '44. In addition, some scores were commercially purchased, and not arranged by Bates band members. The collection also includes a custom-pressed LP of the band, made sometime around 1939 or 1940.
