Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the Faculty, Meeting Minutes

 Collection
Identifier: CA03.01

Scope and Content Note

These records contain meeting agenda and minutes, committee and sub-committee reports and recommendations, correspondence, and other reports. The minutes contained in the first five boxes are bound into five volumes, and contain hand- and typewritten records. Please note that there is a gap in the records between 1894 and 1906. Although the Dean's office was not created until 1946, faculty did meet regularly since the founding of the college, and those records are represented in this collection.

The first Dean was Harry Rowe, who served in that capacity until 1958. In 1986, the name of the office was changed to the current designation, the Office of Vice President of Academic Affairs and Dean of the Faculty.

Today the office oversees the Academic Departments and Programs, as well as: Athletics, the Museum of Art, the Math Workshop, the Registrar and Student Financial Services, and the Writing Workshop. The Dean is responsible for the College's academic programs and curricula; faculty appointments; review, promotion, and tenure procedures; and programs for faculty development, including funding for student-faculty research.
