Poetry, 1940s-2000s
Scope and Content Note
This series is comprised of published and unpublished versions of Tagliabue's poems, as well as indexes to those represented in the Bates Author Collection of the Edmund S. Muskie Archives and Special Collections Library. Published poems appear typically as reprints, off-prints, and photocopies. Unpublished poems appear as original and copy versions of typescripts and original manuscripts. The poems cover a remarkably broad range of topics, from the very personal, such as John's affections for his wife Grace on Valentine's Day, to the cultural, such as his response to paintings viewed at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and span more than six decades.
The researcher should note that Tagliabue often included original poems in his written correspondence. To maintain continuity, these poems have been kept with the correspondence. The researcher looking for all of Tagliabue's poems should consult his letters as well.
