Scope and Contents
Records consist of meeting minutes, correspondence, and drafts of Affirmative Action plans at Bates. Notes of discussions and changes to drafts were retained to document the decisions made over the long period of time that the committee worked to develop and have approved the Affirmative Action Plan.

Biographical / Historical
The Advisory Committee for Equal Opportunity was active between 1977 and 1988. It's purpose was to develop an affirmative action plan. It originated in 1975 as the Title IX Self-Evaluation Committee but changed it's function in 1977. When the Affirmative Action plan was finally approved in 1988, its name changed to the Affirmative Action Advisory Committee.
