Historical Note

The department of American Cultural Studies was formed in 1993, preceding the 1993-1994 schoolyear as an interdisciplinary program. Accordingly, it was comprised of courses in history, politics, english, anthropology, sociology, religion, theatre, and rhetoric. All courses taken for African-American studies also originally counted towards an American Cultural Studies major as well.
