Scope and Content Note

The Department of Theater and Rhetoric records contains correspondence, reports, meeting minutes and agenda, brochures, and other files pertaining to the academic and administrative activities of the department. In addition, many of the plays and performances put on by a variety of theater groups and classes are represented within this collection. See individual series notes for more detailed information about each series. Finally, the record group CA 12 contains some related material, notably collections of the Robinson Players and the Modern Dance Company.

The collection is the physical property of Edmund S. Muskie Archives and Special Collections Library. Historical Note

The Department of Theater and Rhetoric offers majors in both primary fields, as well as a secondary concentration in dance. The department puts on numerous plays and performances throughout the year, in three theaters on campus.

Prior to 1979, the department was named the Theater and Speech Department.
