Scope and Content Note
This collection contains the administrative records of the office of Dean of the College, and were created by Dean James Carignan. Collection includes correspondence, meeting minutes and agendas, memoranda, reports, financial documents, and publications. Also includes material on various local and state initiatives that Dean Carignan was involved with such as the Task Force on Learning Results, the Maine Mathematics and Science Alliance and L/A Excels.

The collection is the physical property of Edmund S. Muskie Archives and Special Collections Library. Historical Note
The office of Dean of the College was created by President Reynolds in 1970, by merging the separate administrations of the Dean of Men and the Dean of Women. James Carignan served as the Dean of the College from 1970 until his retirement in 2003. During that tenure, the office administered many of the functions held currently by the Dean of Students office, as well as administering many programs and units such as the Center for Service-Learning (now the Harward Center), the Muskie Archives, and the College's Environmental Coordinator.
