Collection contains weekly typed and handwriten letters by Dwight Haynes to his parents describing in detail classes and schedules; assignments and exams; dorm life and classmates; social life including freshman rules and hazing; dances and mayoralty; extracurricular activities including concerts, lectures, Christian Association, and Wesley Club; also includes a few letters from the dean of men and dean of faculty; a number of event programs and his reflections on the letters 50 years later.

Biographical note

Dwight Haynes grew up in Haverill, MA and graduated from Bates College in 1959 with a B.A. in philosophy. He went on to earn STB and STM degrees from Boston University

He served in parish ministry for 41 years in several New hampshire towns and cities including Lisbon, Lebanon, Salem and Manchester. For a time he was also in charge of the New Hampshire Medhodist Conference office in Concord. Dwight has been involved in town government, local food pantries and led bereavment support groups. A self-described life-long learner, he enjoys reading, traveling, cycling, writing, teaching, speaking, listening, volunteering and encouraging the minstry of others.
