These records contain reports, evaluations, and booklets, covering the work of the Office of Instiutional Planning and Analysis. A significant portion of the collection concerns the processes of reaccreditation for Bates College.

Administrative files are closed to researchers for 20 years from date of creation. In addition, some files in this collection are closed to researchers indefinitely.

The collection is the physical property of Edmund S. Muskie Archives and Special Collections Library. Bates College holds literary rights only for material created by College personnel working on official behalf of the College, or for material which was given to the College with such rights specifically assigned. For all other material, literary rights, including copyright, belong to the authors or their legal heirs and assigns. Researchers are responsible for obtaining permission from rights holders for publication or other purposes that exceed fair use.

Historical Note

[From the Bates website.] The Office of Institutional Planning and Analysis (OIPA) provides and coordinates information support for reporting, decision-making, and planning activities to help fulfill the stated mission and goals of Bates College. The Office provides the administration, trustees, faculty, and other internal and external constitutencies of the College with information, planning services, and research assistance. The primary functions of OIPA are: 1) Institutional Research; 2) Planning and Analysis; and 3) Outcomes Assessment and Survey Analysis. OIPA also maintains the Bates Factbook and Bates at a Glance collections of public statistics about the College.
