Scope and Content Note

This collection is comprised of 26 three-quarter inch and 16 Betacam videotapes containing interviews and other footage that WCSH-TV, an NBC affiliate based in Portland, Maine, recorded in the course of producing its documentary Ed Muskie: The Man from Maine, broadcast March 29, 1989. It includes interviews with Ed and Jane Muskie, as well as with Senators Joe Biden and George Mitchell, President Jimmy Carter, and others (including Harold Pachios and Kent Ward). The documentary is considered by many to be the best video account of Muskie's life to date, and the outtakes include important commentary on Muskie's life and work that was never broadcast.

Also inluded are six folders containing several slides and photographs, clippings from Muskie's first gubernatorial win and from his appointment as Secretary of State, and national wire service reports on election returns from 1954.
