Scope and Content Note

A collection of photographs, including nearly 200 stereocards, and a family photo album probably circa late nineteenth century; ephemera, such as travel brochures; and artifacts, including five pocket watches and one wrist watch. Many of the photographs and travel brochures pertain to the White Mountains in New Hampshire. A folder of postcards from around Maine, New England, and other parts of the U.S. is also included.

Historical Note

Eunice Hawkins was born in Lisbon, New Hampshire on March 14, 1899 to Frank A. and Ella Florence (Atwood) Hawkins. She graduated from Bates College in 1921. Following college, she taught French, Latin, and history in Camden, Thomaston, Howland (Me.), and later in Lisbon and Franklin (N.H.) schools. She took additional courses at Bates Summer School and at Middlebury College. She lived in Franklin, New Hampshire for many years, and also served as the local librarian and organist at the United Methodist Church. She died on November 11, 2000 at the age of 101.
