The collection is comprised of photographs, negatives, and contact sheets of images taken by Mark Silber in 1972 and 1973. Includes informal campus scenes of athletics, dance, classrooms, and social activities. Some of the images appeared in the Bates College Catalog.

Historical Note

Mark Silber is a cultural anthropologist, photographer, oral historian, author and organic farmer. He has written and illustrated a number of books on a broad range of subjects, including local histories of Sumner and Rumford, Maine, organic gardening, everlastings, and stock car racing. He has taught at a number of institutions, including the University of Southern Maine and Bates College.
