Contains correspondence, reports, catalogs, ledgers, and programs relating to the once-popular literary societies at Bates. These were the Literary Fraternity, the Eurosophian, Philomathean, Piaerian, and Polymnian Societies, as well as the Spofford Literary Club. The Polymnian Society later became the Military Science Club. These clubs were once the most popular student organizations at Bates, and sponsored debates, talks, presentations, dinners, and general discussions on many subjects of the day.
