American Council on Education, 1967 - 1972
Scope and Contents
The first of two sub-series of administrative records (mostly) from the Reynolds administration. These records were not added to the Archives collection until recently, and so have been processed separately from the records under the series "Administrative Records," despite there being notable overlap in the files. That series, as well as these two sub-series, complement each other to give a fuller picture of the administration of the college during President Reynolds' tenure.
The records document the workings of President Reynolds' administration. The bulk of the material is correspondence, memoranda, writings, and publications on various topics. The records cover Bates events, faculty, students and student groups, and various subjects. There are also records for regional, national, and international organizations that Bates associated or worked with. Some records cover years during Reynolds' predecessor, Charles Phillips (pre-1966).
Folders are arranged alphabetically by subject or name. Folders with just a single letter ("A (correspondence)", "B (correspondence)", etc) contain files that were filed under the appropriate letter of the person or organization corresponded with.
