From the Series:

Series contains several letters written by Mrs. Chute to her family while she was in Mississippi; letters describe living conditions, police harrassement, canvassing for voter registration, and setting up the freedom school; also contains a large volume of correspondence from people she met in Mississippi including Sam Bouldin, Bennie Lou Bouldin, Ella Saddler, and Walter Saddler; letters describe local events including the burning of the Gluckstadt Freedom School building; incidents of racial violence and police harrassement; issues surrounding the rebuilding of the freedom school; appreciation for Mrs. Chute's friendship and for the clothing and books she and others sent; and news of various family members including Walter Saddler's experiences at St. Joseph's Business College in Vermont.
