Ledgers and account books were kept by the Treasurer and Bursar to document income and expenditures at Bates. The annual reports document the overall income and expenditures so not all ledgers were retained permanently. The ledgers that have been retained document the early years of Bates, significant areas of spending, or changes in costs historically.
