Biographical note

Melitta Colland (neƩ Sommerfreund) was born in November 24, 1917. One of her brothers left Vienna for Panama, another went to Shanghai in December 1938, and she sailed with her mother Sarah on the "Conte Verde" to Shanghai in the summer of 1939. She immediately started her own dress shop. After the war broke out, Colland lost the business and had to move to Hongkew. In 1944 she married Dr. Bruno Meyerowitz, a refugee from Germany. They had a daughter, Asherah, in Spetember 1945. The family left for Panama in 1947, and soon afterwards for the U.S. Mrs. Colland lives in Connecticut.
