The collection documents the administrative, educational, creative, outreach, and public relations aspects of the Bates Dance Festival, which is held annually each summer at Bates College, from its founding in 1982 until the present.

Contains records pertaining to modern dance at Bates College, both from the current Modern Dance Company and from modern dance clubs and physical education exercises that preceded the Company. The bulk of the records document the current Modern Dance Company, founded by Marcy Plavin.
