Contains correspondence and memoranda, clippings, notes, photographs, reports, scrapbooks, and speeches concerning the activities and interests of Harry Rowe. The records cover his tenure as a student and employee at Bates College, as well as his retirement years. The bulk of the Bates records contained herein are from his work under Presidents Chase, Gray, and Phillips, as well as his interest in the history of the college and its founding by President Cheney.

This collection is composed of material relating to various aspects of Bates College, such as athletics, buildings and grounds, events, traditions, and curricula. It is intended as a ready-reference resource on various subjects. A significant portion of this collection consists of newspaper clippings, but unique materials are also present.

These records cover a wide variety of topics concerning Bates College, but the majority concern various fundraising efforts and other financial matters. Most of the records are from the Chase and Gray administrations, although there is some material from the Phillips era. Many of the files were likely kept by Harry Rowe, who served as Assistant to the President from 1924 to 1946.

Abstract

This sub-group contains meeting agenda and minutes, committee and sub-committee reports and recommendations, correspondence, and other reports generated by the Dean of the Faculty. The first Dean was Harry Rowe, who served in that capacity until 1958. In 1986, the name of the office was changed to the current designation, the Office of Vice President of Academic Affairs and Dean of the Faculty.
